Critical: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Responsiveness, Value We have been working with Amtech for years they have been responsive they understand our property. Since being acquired by this company the service has become a total disaster. Stay away. Avoid. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Services: Ant extermination, Rodent extermination

We have been a customer for almost 2 years. This year they went downhill. No on answers their phone, no one responds to emails, no one returns voicemails. All we get are cancellations and no shows from the exterminators. We spend easily over $1000 on mosquitos, ticks, and are part of their exterminator program for spiders, crickets etc. Definitely switching companies when my contract is up.

I also told me parents to use them so now I'm embarrassed they are wasting their money. They also don't apologize when they finally reach out to you. They justify why they aren't good and that bothers me. They also don't clean up their traps or do a thorough job. We had to call one person back because he only sprayed half the yard. We watched it on camera. Not thorough and unreliable.

JP McHale had handled the termite protection for the previous owners of the house, and I met the rep during the closing and got his information. Now that it has been about a year since I moved in, I called and emailed him to talk about some additional services. It took him a few days, but he called to say that someone else from the company would be in touch to schedule an appointment.

Now it's 10 days later, and after 3 follow-up emails and texts that have been completely ignored, still nothing. It's clear that they do not care about my business, so I no longer want to do business with them. Terrible customer service!

I would select a Zero if available. Was a terrific local pest management company for years. Now acquired by a larger private equity-owned company (EQT) customer service is beyond horrible. Appointments are not kept - and customer not notified. Customer service hangs up if they can't resolve. The only time they proactively reach out is when they are trying to renew the annual contract.

If you are lucky enough to get someone to service the property, the service technician has never been the same. They do the absolute minimum when here and no longer look for a long term solution to the problem - as they did when the family used to run a local business. Search elsewhere. Very sorry that the family sold out.

Horrible company; stay away! They acquired Amtech, the wonderful local company that handled my pest control and the ruined it. Customer service is nonexistent. They schedule services and then do not show up, but still attempt to charge you. You can't get anyone on the phone and when you finally do, they are rude and unapologetic for their mistakes. I had zero issues with Amtech, but once JP McHale took over, it went all downhill. I cancelled my service and found another company to work with. Very disappointing!

Great customer service, you get what you pay for. I use JP McHale for stink bug spraying, tic treatment, lawn treatment, Lawn aeration and overseeding. They are not the cheapest but their services are top notch. I could see a big difference in the quality of my lawn since I used them. I am never worried about not getting the services that I paid for. Good all around.

I've worked with JP McHale on many projects since I bought my home last year. They are my annual pest control prevention provider, sealed my home to prevent rodent access, inspected my house for bed bugs, and installed insulation in my basement. The entire team--especially Peter, Amy, Carolyn--are amazing! They are knowledgable, patient when answering questions, and empower me to make my own decisions.

I really respect them and the company and trust they will do good work at a fair price. Thanks for taking care of our home! (In our experience, this company is LGBTQIA+ friendly.)

I have a fairly pricey annual contract. I mainly hire them to put powder into carpenter bee holes to kill the larvae. Some mouse traps. Made an appointment weeks ahead asking that they bring the equipment to reach the holes on the second floor dormer which is basically a long pole that you pump the dust upward from a can. I remind them multiple times because this was why I stopped using them years ago at another address.

Today is no different. When I called to make another appointment to do what I asked for today their operator asks me, "Why didn't he have the long pole?" I wondered the same. "If he needs a ladder it will be 50 dollars more plus tax. " Imagine a painter or electrician saying "If I need to bring a ladder it'll cost you more." My mistake to try them again.--John C.

This company did a private equity roll up that included my service provider of 20+ years and nothing has gone right since. They never informed us of the change and we went 7 months without being able to contact anyone. They billed me despite a contract being in place and it took weeks to resolve that. I reached out for service to the number I was given with no response. For sure they will now chase volume and sell additional services and the days of personal service by someone who knew our needs will be buried in bureaucracy.

McHale acquired the pest company I had been using for over a decade. They didn't show for an appointment I made with them. When I called, they apologized, blamed it on a new system. Second appointment no one showed during the 3 hour window of time. Terrible customer service. When I called again, the rep said she'd add it to my account's notes. It's rarely a good thing when big companies buy out smaller ones.

Vinny was the technician who came to my house. In more then 15 years with the company he was the best I ever had. Very caring took the time with details and found source of incoming insect that no one ever did. Only Vinny knows how to do the job professionally and well. Please send him again and no one else. Service: General pest inspection

Just started with JP McHale, after they acquired Avon, which had previously provided great service. I was able to work out a continuing service contract as opposed to a brand new inspection. Maybe they will earn 5 stars!

We are in a rental home that is overrun with spider crickets. JP McHale has been wonderful in their continued attention to detail in getting rid of these for us. We have had four different technicians and each has been great! Services: General pest inspection, Bug & insect extermination

We had a cricket invasion and I was using store-bought sticky baits, but they kept coming. The day after McHale's visit I saw many dead crickets on the garage floor. It looks like their service was immediately effective. The technician, Greg, was easy to work with and thorough. Services: Bug & insect extermination, Rodent extermination

The performed services have been questionable in regards to the attention we as the homeowners feel it should be. We have 2-1/2 acres, most of which is grass and we pay to have the property sprayed for ticks. The tech was there yesterday for what seamed to be 10-15 minutes. Not nearly enough time to apply the tick repellent on the entire grass area.

We have been a customer for 14 or 15 yrs with many different services to our account. We would just like to feel we're getting our moneys worth. Thank you. Sincerely, Philip McSpedon

I called the company and they sent a technician out to evaluate the squirrel intrusion into the soffit and attic space of my one story cabin. No ladder, no examination of entry point and I was given a written proposal for work at a fee of $1,500, No trapping of the squirrel was included. Other pest management services gave an estimate of $170-$300 depending on the number of squirrels and holes to be repaired This was so outrageously exaggerated a cost I could only conclude it to be considered an abuse of a senior citizen or a scam.

They came highly recommended by a very good friend but unfortunately they just didn't perform. Hired them in Fall of 2020 for mice and ants in my house and barn. They sent engineer out to make sure outside of buildings were free of easy entry points and fixed accordingly. I was told buildings were secure. Winter came and I still had mice in my basement.

My visiting daughters cat caught and killed a mouse and had to be hospitalized due to the poison. By February they were pretty much gone but still in my barn. Spring came but they never showed up to do ant treatment as contract said they would. Ants began to show up in house in May, I called and was told they couldn't show up until the end of June/ early July.

At that point I took care of it myself. In early Fall they came back to rebait traps for mice. Technician told me to have them come back again before November which they did but mice were still in my basement. I called and told accounting department that I was not going to renew my contract until someone called me from service department. They assured me I would get a call back.

That was over two months ago. I realize things have been tough during this pandemic but this was an absolute waste of $650.00. I am especially disappointed in no call back after asking for one. Just bad service.

I wish no one ever had to use an exterminator and I'm sure every single one leaves behind a horrible toxic legacy for society at large to clean up, after they make their privatized profit, BUT JP & family and their crew have always educated their people, sent them for training, did IPM long before anyone knew what it was, and have always been professional in 35 years of working with them on both private and residential jobs. If you HAVE to use one, these folks are among the best. Smart and capable.

I am a Westchester customer of 10-12 years. The quality of the technician staff has dropped dramatically: I had the same technician for 8 years and the last two years, I've had six technicians. The last one started probing me with personal questions. Meantime, nobody checked the bait stations and as a result, I had an infestation. I called to make an appointment for the technician to return, and the manager cancelled it--without telling me.

I sent notes and emails and phone calls to complain -- no one returned my call. I called back until I could get someone to understand why I wanted to cancel my service. I had to hire Terminex to take care of my pest problems. I was finally told I would get a pro-rated refund. That was three weeks ago. This week, I got a renewal notice. Business is under new ownership which may explain it - they are cutting corners and unprofessional.

Everyone I spoke to Peter, Bruce, Tanya, Mickey, Steven, Isaac, Josh, the list goes was professional and courteous. Once they explained how some insects have multiple generations in a year, their proposal for multiple visits made sense. Pricing was fair for h residential extermination service.

I never write a review, but I am so disappointed in the phone call that I just had with McHale. I am a full service client, I waited 4 weeks for an exterminator (bugs) to be able to come (very nice person), however 2 weeks later I am still seeing spiders in our bedroom, big black ants on our deck, brown grasshoppers in our basement and still a live spider in between the window in our pantry still catching bugs for its dinner!

I called and was told that I have to wait two more weeks and I will also be put on a cancellation list. I asked to speak with a Manager, response, "the manager will tell you the same thing, " I asked for an email or address where I can write to the owner to express my disappointment in the service we received and the response to this continuing bug problem and the response was, "there is no address, there is no email (odd, since online has an office address).

I will wait for the exterminator to come on the reserved date, but I am in the business world myself and have many clients and at the very least I would have apologized on behalf of the firm for the unsatisfactory service and our ongoing problem. I just had to vent and will now get back to my clients who will be treated much better!

My experience with the technician was very good. He was professional, knowledgeable and friendly and provided a thorough service to my property. My experience of the customer service folks was disappointing, on all but one of the occasions I had occasion to contact them. Scheduling has been a challenge with long wait times for visits. Reliability of the technician visiting on the day of the appointment has been a challenge. Helpfulness and professional courtesy of the customer service folks has been a challenge. On balance, I would not recommend this firm chiefly due to the poor customer service I have experienced.

JP McHale provided excellent timely service. We have an annual contract with them. After our dog had an allergic reaction to a yellow jacket sting, we located the nest, called them and they came same day. They inspect our house and property three times a year. Their customer service on the phone is excellent. The technicians are extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend them.

I have been using their service for almost 20 years now. Kim in the Long Island office is unbelievable. I hope headquarters appreciates her herculean efforts to keep customers happy. I have NEVER had even one problem with the office. They come as quickly as they can and always provide the best service. I have been using them not only for preventative maintenance but for bees, ants, rats, ticks and mosquitos as well. And JP McHale has won every time! : I highly recommend.

I'm a contractor and have worked along side McHale for decades. The service workers are always super respectful. Now in my own home- I bought a vacant home that had a terrible mouse problem. McHale cleaned it up in 2 visits. Their email system, customer service, and overall logistics are second to none. And they are priced well! I wish every service was as reliable and smooth as them.

Have been using them for several years, their service and declined to the point where I had to find another service. Had a terrible month issue and it took 3 visits and 3 months only to have another company come in and tackle the issue within one visit.

I am canceling my contracts with this company! Their service is horrendous. I have an annual contract for pest service AND termite control and they cannot get to my home for a service appointment on a timely basis. I have waited 4 1/2 weeks for an appointment and they arrived at 6:15 today and said they couldn't do anything about the spider mites infesting my terrace (because it is raining) or the huge hornets nest above my terrace (because they didn't bring a bee suit). The company cannot even get their service instructions correct to their workers so that they come prepared to do the job. Pitiful!

We signed up for their annual service to get rid of mice and other pests. Neither of which has been taken care of. We have called multiple times and each time a technician comes, weeks after you call, whatever they do DOES NOT WORK. This company charges you without actual Results and then lock you into a contact. Stay far away.

My experience with JP Hale, unfortunately, has left much to be desired. I initially began my service contract with them in the winter, and they came to the house to tend to an ant issue within a two day window. It was great. They were knowledgeable, attentive. took care of the problem. But then the spring came. I had carpenter ants in my kitchen. Called. and needed to wait three weeks before someone could come out to the house. Yes- after paying upwards of $700 for an annual contract- I was now expected to wait three weeks for someone to come address my ant problem.

When I questioned this, as I wasn't happy begging expected to "live with" carpenter ants in my kitchen while I waited 21 days for a service technician to come, I was told that it was their busy season and that's the best they could do. Fast forward to the beginning of June, when I called about flying ants in my laundry room. Lots and lots of gross flying ants.

I was told, again, that it would be a two week waiting time before someone could come. Then- that day- (I called on 6/2 and someone was supposed to be coming on 6/14) I received a text message saying that the technician had to cancel. When I called the next day to reschedule the appointment, the next available date I was given was 7/6! Yes- I was now expected to wait FIVE WEEKS in order for a technician to come to my home to address my flying ant situation. So, what I learned from being tricked into a service contract with JP Hale is that they are quick to come out before you sign up/pay $700.

But once they have your money, you are then nothing to them. How they consider this at all acceptable is beyond my understanding. We will not be signing up again once this contract runs out, as the two recent times we needed the service, we had to remedy the problems ourselves before they could get a technician to come to the home. What's the point of having a service contract if they do not come in time to help service the problem?

I use the mosquito service. The technician is fantastic, very prompt and friendly and does a thorough job. I do not see any mosquitos in the yard anymore, some flying bugs, but nothing like the massive attacks we had last year prior to using the service. I like that it is cedar based and not going to poison our water. Will renew again and consider additional services! I'll add, my neighbor uses their lawn treatment and is very happy. We called on his referral. We're all in Marlboro, NY.

We signed up with JP McHale for the annual plan a few months ago and have been really impressed so far. Our technician Nathan is great, he's thorough, explains everything well, very courteous, super helpful. They follow up with us constantly to make sure we're happy with the service and aren't experiencing continuing or new issues. We use them indoor and outdoor for everything - wasps, carpenter bees, spiders - last time I even asked about clover mites overrunning the back deck and they got that too. Overall everyone's been very responsive and it's been great service. So glad they were recommended to us on NextDoor.

Canceled my service. Pay $150/ month for tick and mosquito, a tick on my kids, my dog, and my mother in law in my yard that's NOT EVEN WOODED. Mosquito spray does absolutely nothing. Home spray outdoors is useless too, I think the spiders are actually multiplying from it! COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SERVICE. Last year they subcontracted for ticks and they were AMAZING. This year they lost us as customers.

We were a customer in 2020/2021 and it was an overall bad experience. Initially the set up was easy and they came out quickly after I found a tick on me last March. We had scheduled service every other month and paid upfront. After the second treatment they didn't show up for the third. Had to call repeatedly and finally they came almost two months late.

Same thing happened with the final treatment. By the time someone actually called me back it was already well into the Fall so I asked that we be refunded. It took then weeks of follow up calls to get a refund. In 2021 we received a notice that we would be auto renewed. I called and left a voicemail that we would be cancelling, and never received a call back.

After finding another tick on a family member in late April we considered having them come out for a one time treatment, and see how they performed. I was told by a sales rep that we were still customers and should get our first service in April.and it was already the END OF APRIL! So they already would have missed their first treatment. I put in writing that we were cancelling.

Then just a week ago (now June) a spray tech showed up to spray our house! I kindly asked them to leave since we changed providers. Two customer service people then reached out, but obviously did not talk to each other or look at our customer notes. Had to repeat myself several times. I still do not trust they cancelled our account and will be watching my credit card just in case. Terrible customer service and timelines of actual spray service

We are not renewing the annual service contract we've had for 10 years. Since the company changed hands the service has continued to decline. Impossible to get a rodent service scheduled in less than a 2-3 week wait and when they do come they do the wrong thing. Amy good techs they had have fled the company Bottom line. Don't waste your money

Saw termites swarming on my property, coming from a railroad tie wall next to my patio. I have an annual service contract, including termite monitoring. They said it would be two weeks before they could get here, BUT, if I sent them a photo of the swarm and they verified it was termites, then they would try to expedite someone coming out to check out the situation.

I did so, and, yet, it was termites. But I've made 5 calls and spoken with 4 representatives there over the past week, and they all said that they were in touch with the routers (schedulers) and that someone would call me back. No one has called me back. Stu and Anthony, both managers who were contacted by the customer service reps, were supposed to call me back, but neither did.

At JP McHale they appear to use only email to communicate with each other there, like we're in 2005 -- no use of IM, no texting, no phone calls -- but I guess funneling everything through email gives them the ability to ignore customers because they could say they hadn't yet seen the email. So here we are, one week later, I'm very concerned about the termite situation, and no one, not a router, not a manager, has reached out to me.

I just want to talk to someone in a position of responsibility, but that seems impossible. What is most galling is that when you call, a recording of Jim McHale comes on and says if you are one of our valued annual service protection customers, press 1 -- as if you will be given some type of priority. As if. Maybe they've grown too large to service all of their customers.

But obviously they take their customers for granted, including their annual service customers. Find another company for your pest control needs. UPDATE: After I posted this review, I did finally hear back from Anthony on a Friday evening. I appreciate the outreach. They have promised to expedite getting someone out to look around my property. Still, I shouldn't have have to make 5 calls spread over a week to get someone to pay attention.

I see from other reviews that the ownership has changed, and that has contributed to a worsening of service. I hope that's not the case. You can buy a "brand", but if you don't deliver on the brand promise, you'll quickly lose your consumer goodwill and loyalty. I hope things improve going forward, but I remain very displeased overall.

Caution: Stay far away. Do not subscribe to their annual service. It is a way for them to line their pockets with no actual service. We have been paying for their annual protection for 3+years. We have had our first issue - carpenter bees. With the first appointment, the person was a no show. The second appointment, 3 weeks later, the technician, walked around, treated no area where the bees were, and left.

When I called customer service, they said they could make another appointment -- 2 weeks later. This place is a total fraud Note that the cut/paste recycled reply. Computer generated on their side. I have already contacted your customer service. And the response -- we can come out in a couple of weeks. Instead, you should give me a refund. I contacted another service. They are coming on Monday. Unlike JP McHale, their standard procedure is to actually talk to the customer and inspect the home

I would leave a zero if I could. Called for a home inspection for ants. I was promised a complete inspection and remedy. The tech arrived late and gave an attitude during his visit. He was at my home for a total of three minutes, sprayed in one area and left. I still have an ant problem and was charged an exorbitant amount. I attempted to contact a manager for a week with no answer back. Save yourself the headache and use someone else. Very unprofessional and services are not as described.

I had a technician from the company come to my house without a mask! He gave my wife a dirty look when she asked him to put it on. Two weeks later the mice were still there alive and well. I called customer service and the manager refused to speak to me.! I am never using them again.

Wow how things have changed - FOR THE WORSE! I have worked with the McHale family for 25+ years and they always went the extra mile. On the rare occasion when a problem could not otherwise be resolved I reached out to Doug or Jim Mc Hale who then intervened and resolved my problem to complete satisfaction. Well the business was recently sold and new ownership is doubling prices from one season to the next.

That is after many years of steady consistent pricing. Being in business I understand cost increases but after many years of steady consistent pricing and then suddenly ambushing with a doubling of prices and an unwillingness to negotiate or counter offer is a take it or leave it attitude. This is the culmination of what began after receiving a Jan 25 email initiated by J P Mc Hale looking for me to renew and then dragging their feet being unresponsive for 4+ weeks and then following up reaching out again ultimately reaching out to Jim McHale only to be told Jim Mc Hale does not handle day to day operations any longer.

The new dictator regime telling me now it is time to part ways. Quite a stunning attitude new ownership has! There are plenty of people who also thought they could not be replaced that are now buried under tombstones that have been successfully replaced! Life goes on and so am I. So should you. J P McHale IS NOT what it was. Speaking with friends the last few days reveals the chatter around town confirms my impression of this sudden and abrupt change.

I suggest you move on - there are plenty of viable services with a correct attitude towards customer service, customer retention and fair pricing. What business raises prices 80%+ from one season to the next season that is performing the same service especially when pricing has been consistent and steady for many (6+) years? Where was interim price increases? Nowhere. Boom - ambush!

The good: they come out when you call and will do repeat visits. They have an app but it was not reliable for scheduling service. The bad: they will call several times to continue annual contract. I was reluctant as the home was going on the market but was assured that I could cancel and get refund for remaining time on contract. I called to cancel one month ago and have not received a refund.

I called again to followup. They recognize the cancellation and am waiting on a callback to see why I haven't been refunded. No one will explain it. They mentioned that they see how many times they have visited and decide if any funds are due back. This was not in any paperwork that I saw and sounds arbitrary. I am out a full years contract and had a fall preventative treatment and just over four months into the annual service when I cancelled. Update: I have since received a phone call and apology from the VP who is going to personally oversee the refund. The technicians do a good job and I'm sorry that the admin side of things left such a poor reflection at the end.
