Carpenter ants are fairly large, sometimes reaching sizes of up to an inch in length with wings. Most of the workers range from 1/4" to 3/8" (major and minor workers). In nature, carpenter ants usually nest outside in hollow, wooden void areas such as trees, abandoned termite galleries, and fallen timber.
